After 20 years at Northern Oklahoma College including the final seven as athletic director, Jeremy Hise is leaving NOC for a teaching and coaching position at Enid High School.
Hise will teach English and be the high school assistant softball coach.
Hise, a native of Perry, served as athletic director since 2013. He served 11 years as an assistant to NOC Enid coach Raydon Leaton before becoming the school's athletic director. He graduated from NOC Tonkawa in 1998, then earned a bachelor's degree from UCO and a master's degree at Northwestern.
"I love Northern Oklahoma College," Hise said. "I love the coworkers and students I have been fortunate enough to work with over the past 20 years."
"There are so many people who provided me with opportunities at Northern," Hise added. "I am thankful Raydon (Leaton) hired me when we started the baseball program 20 years ago. I am thankful Dr. Evans provided me with the opportunity to serve as athletic director. Most of all I am thankful for all the friendships that have been formed through it all."
Hise reflected on his tenure as the athletic director.
"I've said many times before that if we lose every game and every student-athlete has a 4.00 GPA we have failed," he said. "On the flip side, if every team wins a national title but nobody graduates we have failed. Over the past seven years we have had 48 teams recognized by the NJCAA for academic excellence, 280 Academic All-Americans, and two NJCAA Academic National Team of the Year."
"During that same period of time we had eight teams qualify for the National Tournament, 21 All-Americans and a National Championship. That reflects the hard work of our student-athletes, the dedication and leadership of our coaches, and the many great faculty and staff who are always willing to help all of our students at Northern."
He is excited to back on the field as a coach and in the classroom.
"I am excited about this new opportunity and new challenges at Enid High School," he said. "I have missed the relationships you get to build with students in the classroom and through coaching. I hope that I am able to have a positive impact in some way.
Hise leaves an outstanding legacy at NOC, according to college president Dr. Cheryl Evans.
"Jeremy provided great leadership for athletics and the institution," she said. "He managed to help teams from both campuses improve their academic standings, facilities, and traditions. He was a great advocate for players and coaches. He has an outstanding work ethic and went above and beyond to help students excel. He was respected by his peers and he will be missed at NOC."
Vice President for Student Affairs Jason Johnson agreed with Dr. Evans.
"Jeremy has been an amazing athletic director for NOC," he said. "His leadership over the last seven years has produced numerous academic achievements, region championships, multiple trips to national tournaments and an NJCAA National Championship in 2019. I am going to miss his leadership."
Mavs' coaches weighed in on Hise's legacy as athletic director.
"I'm definitely going to miss Jeremy," said men's basketball coach Donnie Jackson. "He is very supportive of all of our teams. He listened to us vent we needed to, he gave recognition and credit when the time was called for it. His door was always open, whether it was to talk about life, fantasy football or important athletic decisions. He will definitely be missed."
Women's basketball coach Greg Krause added. "I appreciate his attention to detail in everything he pursued, which allowed everything to happen in a first-class manner. And I know that's exactly what he wanted. I always knew he wouldn't allow anything to slip through the cracks without my knowledge, which is a very comfortable feeling for a coach."
"I thought Jeremy did a good job while he was the AD," said men's and women's soccer coach Michael Duroy. "I wish him the best at his new career."
"Jeremy did a great job as an advocate for our department," said baseball coach Ryan Bay. "He was always looking for ways to advance athletics on both campuses and help his coaches strive for excellence. I'm thankful for his leadership."
"Jeremy will be missed immensely," said softball coach Tori Wilde. "He values NOC coaches and athletes and truly acts in the best interest of our programs. He made my first year exceptional and I am thankful he was the AD during my transition. I wish him nothing but success in his new endeavor."
Cheer coach Karri Morrill added, "I had great experience working with Jeremy during his time at Northern as our Athletic Director. I always felt like he was very approachable, always made me feel as if any problem or success we had as a program was significant, and worked hard to support our athletes. Maverick Coed Cheer wishes Jeremy the best and thanks him for all he did for our program during his time of service with us."
Athletic Trainer Summer McClure said," Jeremy has been a great asset to the athletic department at NOC. He always made time to listen to what I had to say and tried to help with whatever I needed! He will be missed."
