Northern Oklahoma College has selected Jonathan Monk to be the next Maverick baseball coach.

Monk has been on the Mavs' staff the past two seasons where the Mavs were 92-28.

Athletic director Alan Foster said he is excited for Monk to take the helm of the Mavs' program.

"After an extensive search we felt that Jonathan was the best choice to be the next coach for Maverick Baseball," Foster said.  "Through talking to numerous candidates, it became clear that given our success the past two seasons that Jonathan was the right guy to move the program forward.  I would like to thank everyone for their patience but we did not want to cheapen the process by not doing an extensive search.  I feel like we owe it to the institution as well as the student athletes."

Monk said, "It is an honor and privilege to be the next Head Baseball Coach for the NOC-Tonkawa Baseball program."

"I want to thank Athletic Director Alan Foster and the committee for this amazing opportunity to start my career as a head coach. I am excited to build on to the success we have had under Coach Keeran's guidance, we will continue to write the story of success in Tonkawa, Oklahoma."

"I am thankful for all the coaches and mentors that have been in my corner throughout this process, the relationships with those people are special and I cannot thank them enough," he added.  "I want to thank the players for being patient with us throughout this process, it is never easy going through a coaching change, but they are tough kids and have continued to stay the course."

"Last but not least I want to thank my family, they have been the rock for me," Monk said.  "They continue to be my biggest supporters, and have made big sacrifices to help me achieve my goals. I am ready to punch the card and get to work with our guys."

Prior to NOC Tonkawa, Monk served as the student assistant for the Sam Houston Bearkats in Huntsville, Texas during the 2022-2023 seasons, while earning a degree in Integrated Studies minoring in Kinesiology, Health, and Human Services. He assisted the coaching staff to fulfill the daily operations within the program. During that stretch, the Bearkats won two Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championships, and earned a trip to the 2023 Baton Rouge Regional.

Before Sam Houston, Monk served as the student assistant for the Navarro College Baseball program under Head Coach Matt Podjenski and Assistant Coach Brett Doe for the 2020-2021 seasons, while earning an Associate's Degree in General Studies. He assisted the coaching staff by fulfilling the daily operations of the program, and assisting Coach Doe with infielders and hitters. In 2021, the Bulldogs were the Region 14 conference champions, Region 14 Regional champions, and finished one game short of reaching the World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Monk is a graduate of Corsicana High School in Corsicana, Texas, where he was a student manager for head coach Heath Autrey, one of the winningest coaches in the state. In his senior year, the Corsicana   Tigers reached the 2019 State Tournament in Round Rock, Texas, the program's first appearance in the state tournament in over 50 years.

Monk is the son of Ed and Virginia Monk, and is the second of three children.

He replaces Michael Keeran who is now the head baseball coach at Missouri Western.
