PARSONS, Kansas -- The 13th ranked NOC Mavericks won handily at Labette 91-56 Friday night in Parsons, Kansas.
NOC (4-0) was led by Tyrel Morgan and Dylan McLean with 18 points each. Mark Berry also reached double figures with 10. Morgan led the Mavs with eight rebounds, Nate Goodlow had seven assists.
"A road win is always a good win," said coach Donnie Jackson. "We had unbelievable team energy. It was the best energy we have had. I hope it was real and a start of something more consistent. Our defensive energy was the biggest key. Guys were flying around, rotating and playing for each other. We made extra passes and we were playing for each other."
Freshman Dylan McLean's 18 points off the bench was a key to the win, according to Jackson.
"Dylan (McLean) showed why he earned more minutes with another good game," he said. "Malik (Crawford) also played well with the best effort he had all season."
The Mavs jumped out to a good start building an 18-4 lead over the Cardinals and were never threatened. NOC led 41-19 at half and cruised to the 91-56 win.
The Mavs shot 48% from the field and 39% from 3-point range while holding Labette to 40% shooting on the night. NOC shot 20-28 from the line as well.
NOC hosts Labette Monday night at 7:30 p.m. before opening Region 2 play Thursday night at #24 NEO.
"It's a quick turn-around playing Labette again on Monday," Jackson concluded. "We will need to keep our same defensive edge. It's our last game before conference play starts and we need to continue to improve."
