ENID, Oklahoma -- The #4th ranked NOC Mavs fell Thursday night to NOC Enid 66-62 at the Mabee Center in Enid.
The Mavs (11-1) fell to 7-1 in conference play while NOC Enid (9-3) improved to 7-2 in conference play.
NOC was led by Camryn Dennis with 14 and Avante Lederer 13.
"Last night was an absolute dogfight defensively," said Mavs coach Donnie Jackson. "It was such a physical, intense basketball game. Neither team could shake each other and every small run either team had was answered with a small run right back from the other team."
"I feel the game was won by Enid in the last five minutes and lost by us," he added. "Our late game shot selection was not very good and we didn't guard the ball the way we were supposed to. They out toughed us mentally down the stretch. Credit to Enid for finishing the game the way they did. I'm not disappointed with our effort level at all. We played very hard. We need to clean up some defensive miscues and we need to find a way to put a few more points on the board."
The Mavs held a slim 32-30 halftime lead and built a 43-37 lead early in the second half. After NOC Enid took a 46-43 lead, the Mavs went on a 13-6 run to take a 56-52 lead and held on to a 58-55 lead with 2:59 left.
The Jets then rallied with an 11-4 run of their own to seal the 66-62 win.
The Mavs host Redlands on Saturday at 4 p.m.
"We have a short turn around and play tomorrow against Redlands. We have no time to worry about last night anymore, we need to find a way to right the ship today and tomorrow."
