The Mavs routed Eastern Oklahoma State College 4-0 to move to 2-0 on the year. Northern started fast with a penalty kick goal by George Robinson. Damorney Hutchinson drew the foul in the box. The rest of the half was played primarily on the Mountaineer's half, but the Mavs couldn't score. George Robinson did have a shot hit the crossbar, and Jesus Aleman had a shot hit the far post that deflected just wide of the goal. In all the Mavs took eleven shots in the first half with five on goal.
Northern started the second half strong with an early goal off a corner kick. Marcovich Brown sent a ball into the box and Jesus Aleman headed it home. Moments later Gio Herrera put the game out of reach with a goal after receiving a great pass from George Robinson. After the third goal the Mavs played the remaining minutes with mostly reserve players, and a man down after Josh Bell received his second yellow card and was ejected from the game. Northern was still able to find the goal late when Eli Little played a ball in behind the Mountaineer defense to Damorney Hutchinson who beat the keeper for the final goal of the game.
"Overall I thought we played very well," said coach Michael DuRoy. "We still have a lot to work on, but we kept the ball much better, and our movement off the ball was really good. We need to improve our passing in the back, and we still need to work on our total team defending, but the guys are coming along nicely. I thought Gio Herrera was fantastic today. He was everywhere in the midfield. Brooks Rogers also played well. He does a lot of things that don't get noticed, but are very important for us to play the way we want to play. Marcovich Brown was much improved from the first game too. Our schedule gets much tougher from here on out, so we need to improve."
The Mavs next game is Friday in Tonkaws versus Rich Mountain College. Kick off is set for 4 p.m.
