Northern Men Cruise Past Murray State 3-0

TISHOMINGO, Oklahoma -- Northern beat Murray State 3-0 on Sunday to move to 4-0 on the year.  The Mavs have yet to allow a goal in conference this season.  They also have developed a habit of scoring goals early and late in games.  This game would prove to be no different.

Nine minutes into the game Damorney Hutchinson received a pass from Marcovich Brown inside the penalty box and patiently beat a defender before shooting the ball in the lower corner of the goal just past the diving Murray State goalkeeper.  The game went back and forth with Murray State getting a great chance but the shot was saved by Spencer Braswell.  It would be the only save of the first half for the Northern goalkeeper.  The Mavs had a really good chance to go up by two.  Damorney Hutchinson blasted a free kick past the wall, but the Aggie goalkeeper made an outstanding save to keep Murray State in the game.

Northern started the second half very well creating chance after chance, but just couldn't find the net.  Shukri Farias had a point blank shot saved and Kareem Williams had a powerful header hit the crossbar.  George Robinson was finally able to put the Mavs up by two with a glancing header off of Rahmon Oduborisa's free kick.  Murray State controlled most of the game after Robinson's goal, but their only two shots on goal were both saved by Braswell.  The Mavs put the game out of reach late with a breakaway goal by Damorney Hutchinson.  The Aggies were pushing forward and left only one player in their own half.  The Mavericks cleared the ball out of their defensive half to Hutchinson who outraced the Aggie defender to score the final goal.

"This was a high level game.  Murray State is good," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "They really challenged us.  I'm proud of Spencer Braswell.  He has only allowed one goal all season.  Our midfield and defense are hard to break down.  We don't give up too many good chances."

"You could tell we were tired at the end," DuRoy added.  "Three games in five days plus a long bus ride took its toll.  I need to do a better job of trusting our depth in big situations.  Those guys will come through for us.  We need to focus on improving.  Each win makes the next game more important."

The Mavs next game will be Friday at home against NEO A&M.  Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
