Men's Soccer Moves to 5-0

Northern stayed hot on a cold, rainy day in Tonkawa improving to 5-0 with a win over NEO.   As usual the Mavs started fast with two early goals this time.  The first of which was scored by Damorney Hutchinson just two minutes into the game.  Marcovich Brown had the assist.  The second goal would come less than a minute later by Jesus AlemanEventz Malaska would pick up the assist on the second goal.

Northern kept possession for most of the first half not allowing NEO to get a shot on goal, and rarely letting the Norsemen possess the ball longer than a few seconds.  Meanwhile the Mavs launched shot after shot, but couldn't beat the Norsemen goalkeeper who had a great game.  Northern did break through late in the half as Shukri Farias dribbled past a Norse defender before being fouled in the box.  Farias blasted the penalty kick in for the 3-0 lead.

The Mavericks played the entire second half with second and third team reserve players, but still controlled most of the possession.  The Norsemen did collect two shots on goal in the second half, but Spencer Braswell was able to easily make both saves to collect his fourth shutout in a row.  Josh Bell would finish off the scoring in the last minute with his first goal as a Maverick.  Shukri Farias was credited with the assist.

"The boys really put on a show for the first twenty minutes of this game," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "I give assistant coach Assane Ndiaye a lot of credit for our fast starts.  He is responsible for warming up the guys and he has done a great job all year.  It was clear early that we were going to win this game so we were able to get some guys in early in the first half that haven't played that much this year.  I was really happy to see those guys get their chance."

For the season, the Mavs have outscored their opponents 18-1.

The Mavs travel to Midwest City Sunday to play Rose State.  Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
