13th Ranked Mavs blow out NEO 6-0

MIAMI, Oklahoma -- The 13th ranked Mavs looked like one of the top teams in the country with an easy 6-0 win over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.  Northern dominated from start to finish with two goals in the first half and four in the second.

Damorney Hutchinson started the goal scoring heading home a corner kick from Marcovich Brown.  Two minutes later Marcovich Brown sent another corner kick into the box.  This time Kai Lewis headed the ball into the net.  The Mavericks would create several more good goal scoring chances in the first half, but could not add another goal due to some spectacular saves by the Norsemen goalkeeper.

Northern started the second half quick with an early goal.  Jesus Aleman took a pass from Gio Herrera beat two defenders and launched a shot from just outside the box into the bottom corner of the goal.  Marcovich Brown and Damorney Hutchinson would team up again for the Mavs fourth goal.  Once again it was Brown picking up the assist.

The Mavericks brought in a whole new group of players after Hutchinson's goal to finish the final thirty minutes of the game. Sophomore centerback, Jeff Rhea scored the first goal of his Maverick career on a corner kick from Shukri Farias.  Another sophomore, Ivan Delgadillo, would finish the scoring with his first career goal on a free kick.  Fernando Marrufo picked up the assist.

The Mavs defense and goalkeeper, Spencer Braswell picked up their sixth shutout of the season.  Northern has scored thirty goals on the year and only allowed four.

"The boys put on a show today," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "Their movement and passing was really good.  I was amazed that we didn't score more goals in the run of play.  We scored on three corners and free kick.  I give a lot of credit to their goalkeeper.  He had some great saves."

"Now we get the matchup that everyone has been waiting for," DuRoy said.  "The two top teams in the conference.  We are ranked 13th and Rose State is ranked 14th in the nation.  It should be a good game.  They have a very good team."

Kickoff for the Rose State game on Wednesday is set for 4 p.m. in Tonkawa.
