Northern Women Stay Undefeated

The Mavericks stayed unbeaten with a 1-0 win over Rich Mountain College.  The Mavs were able to get more possession than the previous game, but most of it came on their own half.  Neither team created many chances in the first half.  Rich Mountain took four shots with one on goal.  Northern took just three shots with two on goal.  Late in the first half Larissa Haagsma sent a long punt into the Bucks half to Milica Bulatovic.  Bulatovic beat several Rich Mountain defenders and shot the ball into the corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Rich Mountain controlled most of the second half, but only took five shots with three on goal.  Only one shot really troubled the Mavs.  The shot beat Northern goalkeeper, Larissa Haagsma, but Maverick midfielder Cory Torres cleared the ball off the line to keep the clean sheet.

"Even though it didn't show on the scoreboard I thought we played better today," said coach Michael DuRoy.   "We put more passes together today than we have in any game.  That will help us in the long run.  We are still trying to figure out who we are.  Losing Skylar Yocham for the year really hurt us offensively.  It has caused Milica Bulatovic and Janet Moreno to carry all of the scoring load.  We have to find other ways to score either by set plays or someone else in the lineup.  Even if that happens we will only be able to win more games through hard work and organized defending."

The 3-0 Mavs are back in action at Murray State College on Sunday.  Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
