Mavericks Top Murray State 2-0

TISHOMINGO, Oklahoma -- Northern kept their unbeaten season alive with a 2-0 win at Murray State on Sunday in Tishomingo.  The game went back and forth in the early stages with both teams creating chances.  Milica Bulatovic had two chances that went just wide of the goal, and Janet Moreno had a shot saved by the Aggies goalkeeper.  Murray State had two shots on goal in the first half each of which were saved by Mavericks goalkeeper Jaime Rowlands.

The Mavs broke through late in the first half.  Cory Torres played a ball to Milica Bulatovic near the right sideline.  Bulatovic cut the ball back on a defender and launched a long shot with her left foot that went over the goalkeeper and into the goal.

Northern started the second half with several reserve players, but were still able to generate ten shots.  The Murray State goalkeeper made several good saves to keep the score at 1-0.  Just past the midway point of the second half Sofie Joergensen took a long shot on a free kick that bounced off the post and into the net to put the Mavs up 2-0.  The Mavs defense led by Nadia Chavez and Rachael Chatterji were able to see out the rest of game without giving up a goal.

"It was a great game for us," said coach Michael DuRoy.   "Our midfield played their best game of the year so far.  Their movement was much better and we were able to connect more passes.  Rachael Chatterji and Nadia Chavez were as solid as usual.  Maybe the best aspect of the game was that we rested Milica Bulatovic the entire second half.  This was our third game in five days and the girls are worn down.  It was great to get some reserves in the game for big minutes and the fact that we scored a goal with Milica on the bench was a good sign.  I'm proud of the effort that the girls are giving."
