Women's Soccer wins third in a row

The Mavericks outlasted Murray State College 4-3 on a humid afternoon in Tonkawa Wednesday afternoon.

Wednesday's win improved the Mavs to 7-3 on the year.  Murray State is 1-9-1.

The Mavs scored early on a goal by Milica Bulatovic.  Cory Torres had the assist.  It looked like the Mavs would have an easy day as they controlled the ball and took several shots.  Bulatovic would put the Mavericks up 2-0 after receiving a pass from Janet Moreno and calmly dribbling around the goalkeeper before passing the ball into an empty net.  Moreno would seemingly put the game out of reach with a goal midway through the first half.  Sofie Joergensen had the assist.

Murray State made it a game in the second half with a goal just two minutes after the break.  The Aggies would get within one with another goal midway through the second half.  Late in the game Janet Moreno got behind the defense and was brought down in the penalty box.  Bulatovic stepped up to the spot and blasted a shot by the goalkeeper to put the Mavs up two.  Murray State scored a goal with less than two minutes to play to make the final score 4-3.

"It was a win, but that's about all the positives I can say about it," said coach Michael DuRoy.   "It was probably our worst effort of the year.  When you don't have depth the team has to play hard for each other.  We certainly didn't do that today.  I know we can play better.  For us it's about effort.  If we don't play hard we aren't very good.  If we play hard we can compete with most teams."

They will host Seminole State on Friday at 4 p.m.
